A brief look at the Medical and Insurance Handling of an Odd Medical Condition
Well, maybe not odd but at least obscure or rare
Talk to anyone who has a medical condition not in common knowledge in the mainstream medical care community and they will tell you all about the problems they have had dealing with it. In some cases, even finding a doctor to treat it/deal with it, can be a major problem. But a larger issue, is how it can influence other more standard care. Depending on how rare it is, many doctors won’t listen to you when you are telling them about it and how it can effect something they are doing. Some seem to take an attitude of, I know better than you, and ignore what you are saying. Its all very frustrating!
Most doctors are taught to deal with what I would consider the mainstream medical science. The conditions that most people will typically have; and rightfully so. This is who they are most likely to encounter. Some take it upon themselves to investigate any anomalies, but only to the point of recognition, and then leave the rest for a specialists to deal with. However, as you drive down this path…it can eventually lead you to a path where there may not be any specialists left.
Take transgender people, for example. You are already in a very small percentage of the population to begin with…
